"Pyles said low taxes do not necessarily mean poor service. And Pyles assured Goings that when the county's reassessment is finished in the next couple of years, real estate taxes will increase."
"After Saturday's meeting, Pyles said he thinks those in attendance understood that the Churchville department performs well. Pattie said he was disappointed that more people who signed the petition presented at the Jan. 23 meeting did not turn out."
How many of those 400 signatures on the petition were actually "Real" citizens?....
They are dropping hints of whats coming next year with the new assessment. Karafa dropped the first hint last year in saying that waiting until after the reassessment would be a good time to look at the real estate tax. (this was also around the same time he suggested and made the motion to raise our personal property tax)
ReplyDeleteNotice how the whole campaign slogans of "doing away with the 09 reassessment and doing an immediate reassessment if elected" has all but disappeared from the gang of 3????
I only wish the local media could make the same observation and maybe ask the same questions.....
ReplyDeleteThe local news is a joke, if the reporters would grow a pair and get into the ditches with tough questions on these topics and run something such as a monthly article solely on specific issues, be it campaign promises compared to actions, tax increases, spending etc. they would certainly see an increase in circulation. Back seat reporting is not cutting it.
DeleteDr. Kurto and the Swacgirl had their egos stroked and inflated during 2010 and 2011. With them cranking out the political spin, mistruths, using citizens lack of knowledge on issues and dirty campaign tactics. (Even though Kurt lost, It was spun to be considered a showing of his strong following and an overwhelming turn out of support for him. Say what?) So what better way to show that they are the political masters then to get their gang of so called anti tax, anti spending Independent Conservatives elected and to then have them vote and support tax increases once in office. Swacgirl already alluded to this in her blog posting last year touting that being conservative also meant raising taxes to balance budgets and how raising the personal property tax was not a broken campaign promise of her “little grasshopper”.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there quotes from past meetings where Pyles discounted the value of volunteers? Now he is their biggest advocate.
ReplyDeleteSure was, below is taken from the comments of this blog from awhile back. No wonder Churchville doesnt have enough volunteers to answer a call across the street from the firehouse.
DeletePyles quotes against volunteers.
“I think it would serve more people, serve them better: career people serving you” April 14th BOS Meeting.
“You know that our volunteers are not our future. That’s exactly what I said”…… “What we heard the gentleman say the other day was that when you have a concentration of professionals together to run calls, you’re better off, if we had paid people”…… August 25th 2010 BOS Meeting.
“Volunteers are not the future, that’s a reality.” Tracy Pyles said. Augusta Free Press Article September 29th 2010.
You have the chairman of the board publicly saying that volunteers are unprofessional, there is no future for them and that because they are not paid for what they do, the public would be better off without them. Can you blame people for not wanting to volunteer?
Interesting and thanks for researching and providing these comments...
ReplyDeleteOnly wish the local press could do the same for their readers....
the spin continues on other local blogs. The Gang claimed all through the election period that keeping tax rates low and cutting spending would be the cause du jour. Now that they are on the board, they've championed just about every spending item thats come before them and made reckless decisions (such as accepting grants that commit the county spending future funds it does not have the revenue for currently)
ReplyDeleteNow the SWACKYGirl and Boob kirchman are talking about how wise Karaffa, Pyles and Pattie are for "recognizing" that rates must go up. If this wasn't so serious, it would be laughable. They are telling taxpayers they must bend over and plan on whispering in our ears thats its all for our own good.
Anon 1:43,
ReplyDeleteI read that somewhere also but if you can add a link next time it will give the other readers the opportunity to see it in print themselves...
I did notice that the talk of "Spending Cuts" have dropped out of this groups vocabulary at the same time. Before you raise the taxes offer some spending cuts and we all know there is waste out there to be cut....
But then again spending is power to politicians....

ReplyDeleteSame old story- these folks are all about the Republican Brand when they and their cronies are in power locally or at the state level. if anyone objects, they are told to fall in line. When they lose their grip on power, then they take their ball and go home, all the while spewing invective and lies about those who have dared to oppose them.
Anon 10:12,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link and it helps other readers understand the full picture of the discussion...
And correct, for I have seen them take their marbles and run when they did not get their way. Once the people of Augusta County voted them out of power in the local GOP for a obvious change in leadership that was needed, instead of working towards the common goal with many others willing to work with, they decided to get their own "goals" to strive for.....
As values of houses increase, as they have, Tax "Revenue" will return but yet we have Pyles talking about a tax "Rate" increase as pointed out above. Wait until the people get hit with that. Just as many thought President Obama did them right by raising taxes on "The Rich" only to see their payroll tax go up 2% since the media was not talking about that. Augusta will see their taxes go up to pay for all the unfunded Fire\EMT services they are spending on now.....
Anon 10:12 is right- David Karaffa would be a Republican to this day if he had won the nomination for Delegate when he ran against Bell. His political ambitions are nakedly apparent. To his political credit, he realized an opportunity to run against Jeremy Shifflet, using the assessment half truths and lies to rile voters up. Shifflet is a good man, but he realized too late what was going on and Karaffa ran circles around him by going door to door.
ReplyDeleteHe will be back at some point, looking to return to the GOP fold when Higher Office calls.
