Beverley Manor has a new Supervisor......

The NewsLeader reports:

VERONA—County supervisors unanimously appointed an interim Beverley Manor supervisor Wednesday night: former Staunton Chief of Police Grafton "Butch" Wells.
Wells replaces David Karaffa, who resigned his district seat in April to move out of state.
"I'm not one to sit around and do nothing," said Wells, who has worked as a landscaper, property manager and even a Martin's Grocery employee since retiring from the Staunton force in 2003.
"I was aware of certain issues that Augusta County has coming up in the next several months and years," the new interim supervisor said. " I thought maybe my experiences in 32 years of government work can be of help."
Starting out as a sociology major at Bridgewater College, Wells turned to police science and earned his Master's Degree in public administration from James Madison University.
Best known as Chief of Police of the City of Staunton from 1986 to 2003, he later served as interim police chief of Colonial Beach.
While declining to name specific issues, Wells said he's "in a fact finding mode. There are a lot more people in Augusta County that I want to hear from and get more feedback," he said.
Wells took the oath of office Wednesday and will serve until the end of the year.

  1. There was a previously announced candidate for the seat. Wonder if he also put his name forth for the interim slot? We don't know because the NewsMisleader fails to cover this relevant part of the story (even more so because Wells indicates he will use his interim position to slingshot to the elected position).

    Notice how a certain person who was one of the most caustic and devious of Hanger opponents in 2007 is now one of his biggest supporters? Some were appalled at the tactics even though we also supported Sayer. It now appears those slash and burn tactics were simply opportunistic as opposed to a principled stand.

  2. Interesting how Hanger is now teaming up with those who worked so hard to take his legs out from under him. Goes to show how politics with some is just like the weather. If you don't like it wait a bit and it will change. I was around Agusta SWACpolitics when the "Leadership" was out to clean out those who did not agree with them and why that "leadership" is now out of State central and where they are.... "Shooting sunshine" up Hangers butt and he has fallen for it.....;

  3. David went into this position thinking that he could change the politics in the county and was advised by a loyal & Progressive group of advisors willing to help.

  4. There were a lot of people hurt by the crap she and Kurt pulled. No telling the damage its done to the local party.

  5. I believe the local party has recovered and in fact stronger and thinking about what they are doing instead of just "following" what ever the chairman says... I also think we are better off with the Tea Party being here and providing another view and option to the establishment in Richmond. People know the "Puppet master" for who he is and that is why he no longer the chairman or any real power in the Valley....
