History of the Chairman......

Supervisor Tracy Pyles has become the Chairman of the Augusta County BOS by way of a unanimous vote from the other members and now has his chance of "running things" and proving if he is really interested in working with the other members....
.
Fortunately it appears the NewsLeader is still aware of Pyles actions in the past to distract and derail the BOS with his antics and is still keeping an eye on the chairman...
.
"In recent terms, he became known for a series of 6 to 1 votes and temper tantrums, even to the point of walking off the dais when he couldn't get his way."

Oh sure, its all kumbaya and hand-holding now but if history bears out as it has over the past 20 years, some issue will come before the board that a particular supervisor has worked on and then at the last minute, Pyles will raise objections and cause a stink. I look for Pattie to be the first to have the scales fall off his eyes. I doubt Karaffa will object to much of what happens. Its only a matter of time though.

Did Karaffa find a large enough venue for his swearing in? I know that, as well as getting business cards printed up, was the major concern at the first briefing. I guess all the concerns about out of control spending and taxes took a back seat.

I hope the Sheriff was contacted to provide adequate crowd and traffic control. Did his press secretary, the SWACster, let all the local media outlets know the time and place? What a contrast to Shiflett, who was unassuming and not prone to smug bombast. It really is a shame he was railroaded and demogouged, but then the citizens who bought it must shoulder their share of the blame as well.

  9. You people need to give Supervisor Pyles the chance to get the county back on track and fix what has been destroyed by the boards before this one. At least now he has some support to go back and get a factual and accurate reassessment that we should have had all along. Supervisor Karaffa will be a valuable tool to help make these changes and we all should give him the support he deserves.

  10. To anonymous looking for a fair shake for Tracy Pyles & the new BOS. Please don’t hold your breath waiting for that from this Blog. Read the description of why this blog was created at the top of the page. This site has only one purpose & that is to spew as much vitriol for anyone who opposes their agenda. They are led by the current Chairman of the Augusta County Republican Committee. They are driven by an all consuming hatred for who they call the “M&M’s”, Kurt Michael & Lynn Mitchell. If they find out who you are they will add you to the list. Best thing is to read it & treat it like the laughing stock it is to all the bloggers in the area.

Bill Shirley nor Steve have no idea who I am nor do I know or care if Shirley approves of what I say or do. I've watched for years as it became apparent that personal political power was as or more important then advancing any coherent political policies or ideas in the local GOP. The final straw for me was when Karaffa, likely at Michael's prompting, unfairly attacked Shiflett over meeting attendance. I am watching the ongoing activities like a hawk at meetings and in the media.
I'll combine the mockery with facts as they are uncovered.

By the way... Which local blogs are you referring to? The SWACster? Laughable! She remained pseudonymous as long as it suited her purposes (Michael did it with the GDog cover) so I'll reserve that right as well and encourage others to do the same (there is a rich history of this in our nation, but that is ignored as well). The SWACster likes to use pious baloney mixed in with dreadfully bad cliches to talk down to folks but she ignores her own anonymous work.

  12. AS I said, your statement completely proves my post. Totally driven by hatred of "M & M's". Have you ever wondered why NONE of the local bloggers respond to your posts. By the way Neither M & M knows who I am or that I have responded to your post, but I don't expect you to believe it. Actually I have never spoken to either of them about this Blog, but I have talked to several other Bloggers & they all share my opinion. Keep up the good work though some of it is hilarious when you know what's behind it.

  13. Ollie,
Yes…The above description of this blog explains why this blog was created out of a need to keep an eye on the New BOS and it’s members who clearly stated their alliance to obtain and maintain a voting majority to create a county government to their liking and agenda. It was also created to get information out there that the local media, including those “Local bloggers”, who were not reporting the whole story or actively hiding the rest of the story. This was very evident with the information provided by a “Anonymous” person who provided the link to information that the local newspapers failed to report or provide to their readers:
    http://rightsideva.blogspot.com/2011/10/augusta-supervisor-race-pot-calling.html

This official text from a BOS meeting showed that Pyles failed to attend several meetings himself as well as the meeting that explained how the reassessment process would work. A issue that Pyles and the “Gang-O-four” campaigned on.. This information was brought to light on my original blog RightsideVA and traffic hits to this and other posts providing other facts regarding the campaigns were such a number it was decided that creation of a site to monitor this topic was needed. It is also linked to RightsideVA and shows that I am the author and owner of Operation Drumbeat.

Unlike many of the other “Local bloggers” and especially the “Swacster”, this blog does allow anonymous comments as long as they do not step over that line of personal attack or malicious content. This provides the opportunity for information & facts to get out there, and like the above example with a public link to the BOS meeting text, can and will prove their accuracy. Many of the “local bloggers” moderate their comment sections and if you do not follow their agenda your comment will never see the light of day proving their coordinated agenda. Obviously there may be more of a need for this forum then I thought…

    ReplyDelete
  14. Rightsideva: I never stated that the author of “OperationDrumbeat” was unknown as you seem to imply. I do not have a problem with any citizen observing & reporting the true facts about any Government entity. However, I do have a problem when the reporting comes from a perspective that is not evident. When I read your posts and knowing the facts it is painfully obvious where you are coming from and my information is first hand not hearsay. You cannot help yourself nor can your compatriots, you almost never post anything without mentioning the “M & M’s, as your reply to me proves. They are not your problem, your hatred is the problem. Do you honestly believe that Kurt & Lynn are pulling the strings on the BOS? If you do you have more hate than I ever thought was possible in any person. The big blowup happened in 2008 get over it!

If the blowup happened in 08 then why are folks in SWACland still attacking Bill Shirley and trying to undermine him while putting on a smiley face for the statewide GOP?

  16. Ollie,
Just wanted all to be sure that I take ownership of "Operation Drumbeat" and it came to be after the high trafic during and after the BOS election...

You seem to focus on a "Hatred agenda" that does not exist and I believe we spoke about this before when you used the same accusations. But let's go over it again. It is not a hatred of the M&M crowd (And you may ot it was not me who brought this up in the BOS election posts but responded to several comments posted by others) it's actually now a low tolerance to what I have seen used by this crowd to get and manintain power as they see it no matter what it does to the party. I believe you may recall the parlimentary tactic of a quick open to the nomination process (Mass meeting 2008) followed by a immediate motion to close and the Chairman, Kurt, closing the nomination process before any other motions could be made. Fortunately there was a TV29 camera filming the whole process and trick could not be pulled off. Why such a tactic?
Or how about interrupting a committee meeting as much as possible and in fact having a State Central member ask the ACRC chairman for a definition of the 10th amendment. What purpose was that?...
This site allows the discussion and place to provide facts and links to info not found in the local media...
Look at the info regarding our new BOS Chairman and his failure to attend the reassessment meeting that explained the process to be used. A issue that he and other members of his "Gang-of-?" rode as hard as they could before the election... Link to BOS meeting minutes can be provided if you need it.....

well at least we know where you stand OLLIE... I do hope Mr. Pyles is able to attend all of his assigned meetings this time around... we know now there are serious people watching and taking notes and perhaps this time put a stop to the politics of personality and personal power plays

Lol- the SWAC hits just keep on coming.

On a serious note though- I found the unanimous vote to install Pyles as chair curious. I really doubt it was originally everyone's intent to do so. My guess is, you had the Gangs 3 members and then a fourth vote, afterwhich the remaining 3 supervisors threw their votes to Pyles in the interests of shortterm harmony for the new cycle. Under that theory, you have to find the fourth supervisor. My guess is Shull. The Gang didn't object to his campaign, there is no love lost between Byeler and Pyles, Wills and Pyles have had their issues and Moore just came off a tough victory over the 4th gang member. Was a deal struck? Did Shull get Pyles to agree to quit making stinks about projects in Riverheads?

Of course that's all speculative but its the only plausible theory I have based on the 3 (Moore, Byeler and Wills) members relationships to the Gang o 4.

  20. RIGHTSIDE: To your relief this will be my last post on this & it may be to long for you. If memory serves me right the actions of Kurt at the 2008 mass meeting were challenged at every level of the RPV & he was confirmed at all those levels as the Chairman of the Augusta County Republican Committee. I suppose that the “M & M’s” were pulling all those strings also. He immediately resigned as he stated he would & all the so called SWACers, including myself, supported Bill Shirley for the position. Your group lost that battle but you want to keep fighting it even though you have your man in place. Now, when you attend a meeting of the committee if you disagree with the chairman you are not allowed to speak. So be it if that is your agenda.

As for my “hate agenda” am I to believe that all the comments about the SWACsters, Gang of 4, M & Ms, Kurtmiesters and such come from a perspective of simple disagreement? I think not. Now they control the State Central Committee enough to tell members what questions to ask, pitiful.

Now to the new BOS, unlike you folks I am willing to give them a chance to govern but I will not be silent if they go astray, including the SWAC controlled Karaffa (lol). Tracy Pyles says some good things about fiscal matters, but he is still a Democrat and I will withhold judgment on him for that reason. The attendance issue is a non-starter with me unless it is habitual and I haven’t seen that yet . Thanks but I don’t need links I get my info first hand.

Anonymous & AttackWatcher: “ coronation, SWAC hits, we are saved, Gang of three, 4th Gang member, speculative theory, Gang of 4. Quite a group for such a small post

    Ollie,

Sure your info is "first hand" but have you considered that perhaps it has its own agenda? The link is spin free, straight from the board minutes and it shows that Pyles had an habitual problem with not attending any of his assigned assessment committee meetings in the lead up to his populist campaign to impeach its credibility. Where were you when Karaffa made this an issue in regards to Shiflett? What did your "first hand" sources have to say about that?

Please delay your exit in order to regale us with more of your "insider" information.

  22. I don't mind the family pictures of our new supervisor being sworn in for I am sure this is a important part of his new politcal life, I would have just kept it a little lowkey until I actually did something...

Wait! they didn't give him a Nobel Peace prize like they gave Obama the first week in office before he did anything?!

  23. The special coronation of Karaffa is interesting in that it raises some questions. Did the other 6 Supervisors have there own individual swearing on their own time? or as a group? How come he couldnt have been sworn in with the rest of the Supervisors as a group or or individually on his own time? How much did it cost the taxpayers to have a circuit court clerk come to his residence after hours to personally provide the swearing in? I'd like to find out these answers, but nothing in the press as far as i could find except on swacs blog

My understanding is that one of the first times all of the Supervisors were together it was suggested that they took care of business and the procedure was done with no fanfare or press. Not sure if Supervisor-elect Karaffa was there and asked for it done at a later time or what. No info on extra cost to the county for the for additional procedure...

  25. Ollie,
Don’t run off… Yes the 6th district did choose Kurt as their Chairman for Augusta County even after 141 voters voted for Dr. Roller and 101 voted for Kurt, thus the 6th ignored the wishes of the Augusta County Republicans who showed up that night. Argument was that the meeting was not closed properly but what does it say when the 6th district committee ignores the majority of the voters? Believe me when I say many in Richmond as well as some in the 6th were surprised when they heard what really happened at the mass meeting 2008. But what happened to you, the SWACers, and Bill Shirley that was handpicked? I was not any part of that process for I was removed from the executive committee by way of Kurt’s 2nd mass meeting: http://rightsideva.blogspot.com/2008/05/call-for-unity.html

And I did not return to the committee until after some considerable time and being asked to return and once back I found Bill to be a valuable team builder who was interested in building the committee in both numbers as well as activity.

I agree and support giving Karaffa a fair chance to prove himself but as I called for several times during the campaign, I would like to see him stand on his own two feet and not read prepared statements that the aforementioned “M&M” prepared or approved for him. I had the opportunity to work with Karaffa when he was still a member of the AC Republican committee and I saw that he was willing and striving to improve the committee and efforts for the GOP in the Valley. Instead of continuing to work with the committee to improve things and get things done in a civil manner (Karaffa was never part of the loud disruptive outburst by several no longer on the committee) but he got caught up into the “SWAC Walk-off” from the committee and resigned. He was not “Kicked-off” the committee and like those who were removed for missing 3 consecutive meetings, are welcome to rejoin the committee. The hope is he will stand up for himself, feel no debt to the alliance that got him elected, and represent both his district and the county as a whole in a beneficial manner…

So hang around, be part of the discussion….

thats just it... they act like Shiflett sat there and read a script when Karaffa does the same. And that Karaffa is the dawn of a new age in politics (not unlike our current President). In reality, Shiflett already went down that road of being a young man willing to serve in local politics, so all the noise coming out of SWACland about how Karaffa is all new and shiny and someone we've never seen before means little, this road has been trod before. Mr. Shiflett tread it with dignity and bore the disgraceful attacks with poise. I wished at times he had responded more forcefully but it may be just as well that he didn't get down in the mud with that crowd.

anoyn- your questions about the costs of having a clerk come to a private residence is good. Seems to me, working with the other officials to have a mass swearing in to save costs and time would have been the more prudent course. Don't expect the SWACster to talk about that though... the SWACster doesn't really do followup analysis or respond to actual hard questions. Its all spin, noise and cheesy cliches over there.

Thanks and I wonder if that is public record?
No big deal but probably a sign of this to come with this bunch. It does make it an interesting relationshipwith the other supers who avoided the lime-light and keep their focus on the public service aspect of the position...
But I was hoping to grab a balloon ride!

I see the chair has made committee has made Committee Assignments. Will attendance be mandatory or will demerits only be handed out for non-attendance if you stray off the Gang's reservation?

We already know Mr. Pyles's issues with attendance- even on matters of the gravest importance to the Citizens of Augusta County. Mr. Karaffa, in a BOS meeting last term, said his work schedule made it hard to attend meetings, he never explained how that would work with him as a Board Member. It will be interesting to see, I certainly expect gang members to hold themselves out and be held to a higher standard since this was their campaign issue.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It is interesting how "Campaign Issues" can come back to bite you in the end once you win the election. Remember candidate Obama when he promised the most transparent administration and every bill\issue would be posted for ALL to see 72 hours before the actual vote?...
